National domain zones .BY and .БЕЛ have exceeded the mark of 150,000 registered names

The technical administrator of the national domain zones .BY and .БЕЛ reports that the number of registered domain names in Belarus has reached a significant milestone – in the period from January to June 2025, the total number of domains exceeded 150,000.

During the first six months of the domain zone ecosystem's operation in 2025, 12,516 new domains were registered: 11,524 domains in the .BY domain zone, 992 domains in .БЕЛ. Traditionally, the "locomotive" of the growth in the total number of domains, as in previous periods, were domains in the .BY zone.

In total, the technical administrator's domain name registry contains 150,882 second-level domains, including .BY – 135,704 domains, .БЕЛ – 15,178 domains. In March, there was a peak of 2,112 purchased domains in the .BY zone, and in April, there were 176 domains in the .BEL zone. Compared to the same period in 2024, the increase in the number of domain names is not as rapid (149,491 in the first six months of last year), but experts note that there is still a positive trend towards an increase in the total number of .BY and .BEL domains, which is in line with global trends.

In terms of regions of Belarus, the acquired domains were distributed quite predictably: the majority of domain name owners were registered in Minsk and the Minsk region, followed by Brest, Gomel, Grodno and other regions of the country with a significant margin.

Companies are expanding, developing new areas, businesses are creating new websites for themselves. More and more domains are being bought in the BY zone. Foreign companies, non-resident individuals. Russia is in the top of the countries – 3963 registrations from residents of the Russian Federation. After Russia, the country with the greatest interest in .BY is Germany, followed by the USA, China and France with a small margin.

The share of domains registered by non-residents of Belarus is about 8% of the total number of domain names in the registry.

One of the exciting projects that the technical registrar pays special attention to and has no analogues anywhere in the world is holding regular charity auctions (providing assistance to children left without parental care, orphans, children with disabilities and those with special needs). Domains that have become vacant for some reason or whose owner has not renewed them are put up for charity auctions.

In the past six months, we managed to hold five auctions, and each of them was marked by bright, memorable domain names, the cost of which brought a significant amount of monetary support to the common charity money-box – 68,754 Belarusian rubles 71 kopecks. Participants in charity auctions bought 298 lots, of which: 285 – in the .BY zone, 13 – in the .БЕЛ zone.
