The .BY domain zone celebrates its birthday!

Today, the .BY national domain zone turns 32 years old! Delegated to the Republic of Belarus in 1994, the .BY zone became the foundation of the Belarusian Internet as we know it today. The technical administrator of the .BY and .БЕЛ national domain zones thanks and congratulates the IT community and everyone involved in the development of the internet in our country.
In December 2025, the number of registered .BY domains exceeded 138,000. Four months later, the Bynet grew by another 2,447 domains. Spring is traditionally the busiest time for new domain registrations: 2,520 and 2,411 domains were registered in March and April, respectively.
Incidentally, there has also been an increase in the number of Cyrillic .БЕЛ domains – today, the total number now stands at 15,487.
The .BY domain extension is known as one of the fastest-growing European domain extensions. In 2014, the number of .BY domains exceeded 100,000 registrations, and the extension has held the top spot in Europe for growth for several years running.
Interestingly, one of the first internet resources in Belarus was the university computer network website unibel.by. Over time, hundreds of other internet pages began to appear. By 2000, domain registration became available to anyone. A year later, Belarus had over a million internet users, which undoubtedly contributed to the development of the national domain zone.
The .BY domain remains the most popular domain in Belarus. It is used not only within the country but also abroad.
Non-residents of the Republic of Belarus are also among those registering domains on the Belarusian Internet. As of early May, 12,469 domain names were registered to non-residents, representing 120 countries.
The top five countries of non-resident owners of domain names in the .BY and .БЕЛ zones are Russia, Germany, the United States, China, and France.
.BY is the only national domain extension that hosts charity domain name auctions. These charity auctions feature domains that have become available for various reasons. By purchasing these domains, Belarusians help orphaned children, as all proceeds from the auctions go to orphanages across Belarus.
Congratulations to all Bynet partners, clients, and users! The .BY domain is a vibrant, recognizable national symbol of the Belarusian internet community, facilitating its effective digital development and fostering new IT opportunities for the country.
